Patricia Costa
Advisor and interim leadership
I work with owners and leaders of mid-sized companies through pivotal moments in their business.
Alongside the people who run it, inside the business, I help strengthen how the company works and where it is going. My background joins two things that rarely sit together: growing a business and making its mark, and a feel for where regulation and scrutiny could catch it out — so its ambition is never blindsided.
The thread through all of it is trust — a business that delivers what it promises.
Why I do this
I have spent my career looking closely at businesses — how they run, where they strain, what they could become. What draws me is the growth itself: helping a business find its next shape and make a real mark. And I have learned to see what others in the room often miss — where a plan could run into regulation, scrutiny or risk — and to name it early, so momentum keeps its pace instead of meeting a wall it never saw coming.
I came to it the long way, delivering change inside companies and advising them from outside, and seeing again and again how much is lost when a leader has no one to think with. I work independently now so I can do the deeper part: inside the business, with its people, for as long as real change takes.
What I bring, in the end, is not a document but a person who stays close enough to make the change real, and who treats the trust that makes it possible as the point, not the by-product.
What I’ve come to see
In all of it, I kept meeting the same pattern. A leader carrying the weight of the business, often without a real sounding board for where it should go. And teams who know their work well, but for whom a new direction is hard to picture from inside the daily routine.
What tends to be missing is a fresh perspective held from within — someone who can think alongside the leader, shape a vision worth moving toward, and help the people of the business see themselves in it and want to be part of it. That is the work I have grown into, and it is the work I choose now.
How I work
From within, and in depth. I take the time to understand a business as it truly is, then build change with the people already there. I work in whatever depth a situation calls for — as an advisor to a leader, in a hands-on interim role, or somewhere between. The engagement changes; the approach does not. The aim is work that holds: steadier operations, a clearer direction, lasting trust.
Working with ownership
I hold the interests of those who built the business with real care. In my current work guiding a school into its next chapter, I am helping its founder move toward the part he is best placed to play — where his relationships, his feel for the market, and the standing he has built become his contribution to a bigger, more ambitious model. My aim is always to honor what a leader has created, and to protect the trust it rests on.
Some of the work
- Guiding an established Swiss language school through its current chapter — rebuilding operations from within while shaping a renewed model and an elevated role for its founder.
- Leading the US and Dutch sides of a merger, kept strictly apart by an information barrier — guiding each, over ten months, to align its approach, method and results, so their reporting integrated seamlessly the moment the deal closed.
- Reshaping the operating model of a Swedish family-owned company so profitability could be seen where it was earned — winning each local entity to the change by setting out the bigger picture, then training their teams to run it.
Background
Brazilian by origin and in Europe since 2003, I have built my career across Switzerland and Spain, studying in both and working in several languages. An admitted lawyer with an MBA and postgraduate degrees in law, with two decades across industry, finance and advisory — most recently as a director at a leading advisory firm.
If this resonates, I would be glad to have a conversation.
